The comprehensive unit known as a wall pack provides any property owner with a low cost yet reliable source of illuminating beams. Each beam emitted by the bulbs in that unit beats down on a wide area. Yet because it comes from a device attached to an elevated point on a vertical surface, it does not interfere with the flow of traffic in that same spot. Moreover, it does not rely on the presence of any sort of visible wiring.
Today, wall packs lighting has become the number one choice of those men and women who need to satisfy various municipal regulations, regarding commercial and public buildings. For example, such fixtures can be found on the walls of many parking garages. Sometimes too, one or more of those comprehensive units have been used to illuminate some aspect of a building’s façade.
The illuminating beams of a wall pack come out of a unit that houses a combination of mounting equipment, a lap and a power cable. One of the lap’s features underlines the reason that wall pack lighting has become so popular, among those men and women who own and operate a commercialized facility. That feature is its ability to accept a range of different bulbs.
The same lap-like component also aids distribution of the outgoing beams over a wide area. At the same time, it keeps a great deal of light from escaping upward, into the sky. A number of local governments have passed laws that limit the extent to which any lighting fixture can have what is known as an uplighting effect. The lap’s presence on a wall’s light-emitting fixture eliminates the existence of that unwanted effect.
Two other issues that present-day governments must deal with relate to the public’s safety and security. By investing in wall packs lighting, a building owner can more easily comply with those regulations that reflect a concern for those two issues. For example, their long-life guarantees their ability to continue functioning, when a fixture with a more traditional bulb might stop working. That characteristic makes each of them the ideal device to use for lighting up an emergency exit route.
Of course, it is possible that during an emergency, all lighting fixtures might be cut off from their normal electrical supply. In that case, the value of the pack’s comprehensive nature becomes quite clear. That all-in-one unit can house a battery, along with the wires, the wires that normally guarantee of a flow of electrons into the space surrounded by metal, fiberglass or plastic housing. Thus, in an emergency, that battery can replace the current in the wires, which usually supplies the wall-attached device with its needed power.
Another characteristic of these wall units relates to the security of those who work in or visit any commercialized or public building. In a well-lighted structure, there should be a limited number of costly incidents, such as those caused by thieves or other troublemakers. Because the power level of any of these packs can be raised, each of them can be adapted for use in a shadowy region. Moreover, because any one of them is easy-to-install, the shadow in that rather dark area should not pose a great challenge the man or woman who is charged with installing a new or improved lighting fixture.
