Flood lights and wall mounted lights

Wall mounted wall packs are on the main types of security lighting. By definition, security lights are meant to provide an even distribution of light around the walls of your building (commercial or residential) and over the grounds of your properly. The second major type of security lighting is flood lights. Both flood lights and wall mounted wall packs are available in a variety of styles and model number. The variation is greater amount wall mounted wall packs since these types of outdoor lighting units are able to hold a larger variety of bulbs. Wall mounted wall packs can accommodate metal halide lamps, mercury vapor lamps, and fluorescent lamps. Wattage of these lamps can vary from as low as 50 watts (usually fluorescents) to as high as 400 watts or sometimes more (for example, with metal halide lamps.)

Basic installation guidelines

Wall mounted wall packs are installed high on the outside of buildings. They have special cases that protect the lamps within the units. The cases are meant to withstand a variety of inclement temperatures from excessive heat, snow to rainy and cold climates. Many wall mounted wall packs can be used with canopy lights. When used with canopy lights, they provide a strong radiant light that will provide a significant brightness to the entire perimeter of your residential or commercial building.

Types of wallpacks

While there may many different types of wall mounted wall packs available, they can be generally categorized into one of six different designs: mini, cutoff, small, medium and large. The cutoff wall mounted wall packs are considered to be the most attractive of all the styles. They have a slightly less commercial feel than some of the other styles. Custom colors are available as well as standard textured bronze finishes that look good on the outside of most buildings.

The cutoff units often have porcelain mogul socket and bracket for maximum ease of mounting. It’s also common to see a one half inch and three quarters inch threaded NPT. The other wall mounted wall packs can hold lamps with a power as low as 35 watts to as high as 400 watts. Some of the mini units can even accommodate lamps with a lower wattage, however, very few business or home owners use a lower wattage.
