Perhaps one of the biggest differences between commercial LED wall packs and the types of residential lights most have seen is the type of lamps that are used. That said, there are some commercial LED wall packs and lighting fixtures that also use incandescent lamps. But their lifespan is short.

Incandescent lights have warm colors whereas the metal halide and sodium lamps provide a whiter, brighter and harsher light. The average LED wall pack uses a type of fluorescent bulb. These bulbs work by activating phosphors through a mercury arc using ultraviolet energy.

LED wall packs can also be available with HID bulbs. HID is an acronym for High Intensity Discharge which describes a technology that creates a bulb with an even more intense color. A simple way to describe the way these types of lights works is that they produce a bright light from the production of a gaseous arc discharged that is created using elements like high pressure sodium, mercury vapor or metal halide.
